Customer advice regarding the Coronavirus
At this time when the news is dominated by Coronavirus, we wanted to let you know that we are vigilantly implementing enhanced protocols to ensure your safety, as well as flexibility of your rental bookings.
The safety of our customers and staff is of paramount importance to us and we are closely monitoring the news, information, advice and guidance from the World Health Organisation and local authorities regarding the spread of the Coronavirus. Our focus is to ensure we meet customer needs while doing our part to keep you and our employees safe.
Are all your rental stations in Luxembourg open?
As part of the global efforts to help contain the spread of the Coronavirus, recent government measures may have led to us closing some of our rental stations. In the unlikely event a rental station closes during your booking, you will be contacted by the team to make suitable arrangements.
What should I do if I have already made a booking, but it’s impacted by the Coronavirus?
If you have already made a booking, but it is impacted by a quarantine measure or other travel restrictions due to the Coronavirus, this booking can be cancelled as outlined below:
- Cancellation fees for any Pay Later customers impacted by Coronavirus-related travel bans, will be waivered
- Cancellation fees for any Pre-Pay rental customers impacted by Coronavirus-related travel bans, will be waivered
For any customers who have booked through a third-party broker or website, please contact them directly for further guidance should your travel be disrupted.
What about bookings not directly impacted by Coronavirus restrictions?
For increased flexibility on all bookings, you can change or cancel, without fees, any reservations in Europe for rentals due to start before 1st September.
For bookings which start after this time, there will not be any penalties for changes made up to 72 hours before the start of your rental.
How should I contact you regarding a new or existing booking?
As part of the global efforts to help contain the spread of the Coronavirus, recent government measures may have an impact on our ability to service calls to our reservations centre. If you are making a reservation, you can do so on this website or by using our app.
To amend or cancel an existing booking:
- If your booking is for a rental in Europe starting before 1st September you can manage your booking on this website.
- If your booking is outside Europe, starts before the 1st September and is directly impacted by a travel restriction please contact our customer services team.
- For all other reservations you can manage your booking on this website.

Is Avis taking any additional precautions to help reduce the spread of the Coronavirus?
We are closely monitoring the information shared by the World Health Organization concerning advice on how to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
To help protect our staff and customers we are encouraging regular hand washing, and the use of hand sanitizer, where available. We have also implemented additional cleaning techniques to our counters and surfaces in our vehicles with alcohol-based wipes.
We advise all our customers to keep updated on the latest developments from the World Health Organisation and the Ministry of Health.
CHOOSING YOUR HIRE VEHICLE
Can I choose the specific vehicle I want to hire?
But hire in the UK, Germanym Irelandm Austria or France from Avis Select Series and you get to pick the exact car you want. You can’t choose the colour, but that really won’t matter once you’re behind the wheel.
You could soon be driving the open road in a sassy Mini Cooper or a sporty Audi A5. We only offer quality models.
The choice is yours. Simply pick your perfect hire car.
Remember to book at least 72 hours before your journey so we can prepare your car.

Fuel
Will my hire car come with a full tank of fuel?
Choose from:
1. Bring Back Full: If you return your hire car with a full tank of fuel, we won’t charge you – even if you chose Fuel Up Front when you collected it.
2. Fuel Up Front: You can pay for a full tank of fuel when you collect your car to save you refuelling at the end of your trip.
3. Pay On Return: If you don’t return your hire car full and didn’t choose Fuel Up Front, we can refuel it when you bring it back. But this is the most expensive option.
4. E-Z Fuel: On a short trip? Drive 120 kilometres or less and for a pre-paid flat fee we will take care of the refuelling.

PAYING FOR YOUR HIRE VEHICLE
How can I pay for my hire vehicle?
There are several exceptions:
· You can’t use a debit card in Iceland and Canada.
· We don’t accept cards with Solo, JCB or Cirrus logos.
· German issued Maestro cards are only accepted in Germany.
· If you booked online using a PREPAID card, it must be shown at the counter along with another payment card.
Two payment cards may be required at the counter for higher-value vehicles – if you’ve booked online, or over the phone, this will be highlighted on your booking confirmation.
Remember, the name on the card must match the driving licence of the main driver.

When do I need to pay for my hire vehicle?
There are some useful extras, such Fuel Up Front that you can’t pay for until you collect your vehicle. These will of course still be reserved for you.
If you choose to pay when you book online, we’ll dip/swipe your card to gain authorisation. If you choose to pay at the station, we’ll dip/swipe your card to gain authorisation for the estimated full hire cost (including extras) but won’t take payment until you return your vehicle.

Can I pay with a debit card?
There are a couple of exceptions:
· the Maestro card is only accepted in Germany.
· PREPAID cards are accepted online however they are not accepted at the counter which means a non-PREPAID card must be shown at the rental station (together with the PREPAID card). A PREPAID card can be used to pay for the rental at the end of the vehicle hire.
Remember, the name on the card must match the driving licence of the main driver. Someone else can’t pay on your behalf.
And don’t forget to bring your payment card when you collect your rental.
I am an Avis Preferred member. How do I pay?
What does Pay Now and Pay Later mean?
If you choose to pay online now, you’ll pay the full cost of your booking including extras. Some extras can only be paid for at the counter. We’ll let you know which ones when you book – they will still be reserved for you. When you collect your vehicle, you’ll need to present the card used for your online payment, we’ll dip/swipe your card to gain authorisation but won’t take any payment until you return your vehicle.
If you’d rather not pay online now, you can pay at the hire station. When you collect your vehicle, we’ll dip/swipe your card to gain authorisation for the full hire cost (including extras) but won’t take payment until you return your vehicle.
Paying now will cost you less than paying later.

What credit/charge cards can I use?
Remember, the name on the card must match the driving licence of the main driver.
And don’t forget to bring your credit/charge card when you collect your rental.
Can I pay by cash?
Remember to bring your credit card when you pick up your hire vehicle. This must be in the same name as the main driver.
